Kaspersky Study Emphasizes the Need for Expertise Against AI-Driven Cyber Threats

As artificial intelligence (AI) becomes a double-edged sword in the cyber realm, companies worldwide are intensifying efforts to reinforce their cybersecurity frameworks. A recent Kaspersky study reveals that 92% of IT and Information Security professionals in the META region anticipate a significant increase in AI-driven cyberattacks over the next two years. This rising threat has pushed organizations to prioritize advanced cybersecurity strategies, leveraging both internal resources and external expertise.

In its report, “Cyber Defense & AI: Are You Ready to Protect Your Organization?”, Kaspersky surveyed IT and cybersecurity professionals from small, medium, and large enterprises. The results underline the urgent need for proactive preparation against AI-enabled cyber threats, as 9 out of 10 participants predict a sharp rise in attacks enhanced by AI technologies.

Growing Importance of Specialized Expertise

To navigate the evolving landscape, 94% of respondents emphasized the importance of equipping in-house teams with specialized training, while 93% recognized the necessity of tapping into external expertise offered by cybersecurity vendors. From retail businesses to critical infrastructure, the need for robust threat protection spans all industries.

Currently, companies are adopting a dual approach by combining internal training initiatives with external support. The study found that:

  • 36% of businesses are in the process of implementing or planning to deploy external assistance.
  • 34% are prioritizing internal employee training programs.
  • 61% already benefit from external cybersecurity expertise.
  • 62% have established internal training frameworks.

This balanced strategy underscores the recognition that effective defense against AI-driven threats requires both in-house capabilities and vendor-driven solutions.

Role of Cybersecurity Vendors

Cybersecurity providers offer a variety of specialized services, ranging from tailored solutions for specific organizational needs to research centers dedicated to tackling unique challenges. One such initiative is the Kaspersky AI Technology Research Center, which focuses on harnessing AI innovations to bolster cybersecurity solutions.

Vladislav Tushkanov, Group Manager at the Kaspersky AI Technology Research Center, stated:
“Our latest findings demonstrate that businesses are acutely aware of the increasing risks posed by AI-powered cyberattacks. To counter these threats, organizations are actively seeking comprehensive solutions that combine their own efforts with external expertise. At Kaspersky, we leverage advancements in AI to enhance our threat detection strategies and address the specific challenges AI itself presents in the cybersecurity space.”

Recommendations to Stay Ahead of AI-Driven Threats

Kaspersky advises organizations to adopt the following measures:

  1. Enhance In-House Expertise: Leverage tools like Kaspersky Managed Detection & Response and enroll in Kaspersky’s online and live cybersecurity training programs to build employee resilience and bolster cyber defenses.
